Ope (noun) army, troop, party, entourage, contingent – group of people moving together.
Ope is an Auckland Council programme to help connect Enviroschools and the community around waste reduction and climate change activities. Rākau Tautoko practitioners Tara, Carla and Haare are working in partnership with Tāmaki WRAP Community Activators Sarah, Kristine and Sam to engage with local schools and community groups throughout Maungakiekie-Tāmaki that are interested in Ope and creating activations with their local schools, for the environment.

After connecting with the schools in our community, everyone was keen to come together through a wānanga for whakawhanaungatanga, ako and moemoeā. Through the wānanga, 18 x community groups and local schools came together on the 2nd September 2022 and connected, shared and learnt together. They created four activations – Climate Change and Action, Gardens, Youth Led and Indigenous Led. Our Rākau Tautoko Practitioners and Tāmaki WRAP Community Activators are taking these concepts into 2023 to put into action. Watch this space!
