Rākau Tautoko decided to apply to the Ara Taiohi Youth Week Grant. With the help of Te Oro, we received a total of $750 and stretched it out to run a series of workshops of young people in Tāmaki called “Step up, Speak Out”. Three of our Rākau Practitioners supported the workshop series and were supported by local community volunteers – Philippa Holmes, Tamati Patuwai, Karl Bailey, James Hita and Josephine Bartley. Our young people decided to give back to the community and combined efforts with The Panmure Library by providing american hot dogs and pop corn to the community while they watched Moana. The young people are still connected to The HEART Movement through The Pockets of Hope Community Dinner and have created stronger connections with community leaders in the community because of the series.
