Rākau Tautoko was approached by the Infrastructure and Environmental Services team at Auckland Council to facilitate community engagement workshops with key community stakeholders in Maungakiekie-Tāmaki, to seek feedback about their climate action priorities. We held two online workshops in March 2022 which focused on gathering community input towards identifying goals, barriers and priorities around climate change mitigation and resilience. The data captured will be used to help feed into Auckland Council’s development of the Community Climate Action Plan for Maungakiekie-Tāmaki.

The workshops were attended by 14 experienced locals who are actively working toward climate based community initiatives. The level of insight from our participants was impressive along with their passion for climate change and its impact on our local environment and communities. Rākau Tautoko values the notion of locals supporting locals and gifted those who took part in the kaupapa with bountiful bags of produce grown locally at the Tāmaki Urban Market Garden.
Ren and Jasmine, our lead practitioners for this project, thoroughly enjoyed discussing what everyone loves about Maungakiekie-Tāmaki, imagining what a cleaner and greener future could look like for the community and acknowledging the initiatives which are already taking place. We would like to thank everyone involved in this project for their time and input into this process.
