Working alongside Auckland University, we recruited participants that had experienced or were currently experiencing the Palliative Care System – this could be for themselves or their loved ones, while also experiencing low socio-economic conditions. The research included recruitment, relationship management, empathy interviews, documenting and implementation of possible ideas.
Having found it difficult to recruit interviewees, for a number of reasons most prominent being the lockdowns we constantly found ourselves navigating. We pivoted and opened the process up to local organisations who could hold the interviews themselves, lessening the the period of time needed for whanaungatanga. Those organisations included Ruapōtaka Marae of Glen Innes (Tāmaki) and Synergy Projects of Oranga (Maungakiekie).
