Te Tiriti Bill Submissions

As a team we think it’s super important for everyone to be heard and have their say on the Treaty Principles Bill. Late 2024 the Toitū Te Tiriti march was massive and Aotearoa saw many of our people stand up for what we believe is right! We now need to follow that up with submissions against the Treaty Principles Bill. ❤️🤍🖤

We know making submissions can be a little scary and intimidating, so to support our community we sat at “The Cafe… with no name” on Saturday 14th December and offered support to anyone that wanted help to do their submission and shouted them a drink! It was a great success with many people coming down, having a kōrero with us and making their submission to the government, against the bill. It was so nice to be out in the community, meet others and share thoughts. We were amazed by people coming from far and wide!

In total we supported 24 people to make their submissions with us. We also created a lot of awareness and many people were supported to do it later or at home with their whānau. If you didn’t make it down to “The Cafe… with no name” but would like more information on this, we have put together some links and points to share with you below.

  • The Honour the Treaty submission page is a really great, clear and concise overview on the submissions process. If you want to know more about making a submission this is a good read.

You can make your own submission or you can support someone else’s, it’s best if you can submit your own and it doesn’t need to be flash at all! But if you’d rather just support another submission, the Green Party have a great one here – Green Party – Quick Submission

If you are doing your submission on a phone here are some good options:

  • The Common Grace – Jotform – Submission Template is a great, quick and easy option. It’s an online form where you fill in the boxes and then they format your answers into a letter and submit on your behalf to Parliament. A copy of your submission will be emailed to you. There is lots of support throughout the form and text you can copy and paste if you agree.
  • The Together for Te Tiriti page is also great and supports you through the three steps of making a submission, with examples and prompts. Click on the “Examples” and the lightbulb buttons to get prompts and tips on best ways to answer. You must enter text into all three sections before you can submit.
  • The Amnesty International – Template has text that people can copy and paste for their submission, then has a link at the bottom for the parliament page where you can make your actual submission.

If you are wanting to do your submission on a laptop this is a great option:
  • The Waiako Books – Submission Template is a web page that has a downloadable template document that can be edited then needs to be uploaded through the parliament portal, definitely an option that will work better on a laptop.

Lastly here is the parliament page where you can make your actual submission on the Treaty Principles Bill: https://www.parliament.nz/en/ECommitteeSubmission/54SCJUST_SCF_227E6D0B-E632-42EB-CFFE-08DCFEB826C6/CreateSubmission

We are so proud of our people and our community taking a stand for what is right in Aotearoa. Toitū Te Tiriti! ❤️🤍🖤
