Marie was excited to get her own hens

Today started with two chicken deliveries. We set up at Marie’s first who was out of her tree excited at finally getting her own hens. Area was set up and ready and the hens immediately looked comfortable. Their wings had been clipped already and I showed her & Rick how to do this if it’s needed. They had purchased their netting from Bunnings with posts and had a rescued gate from somewhere. They were pleased to get the fridge bags and had heard of a bokashi bin but were not sure how much use it would be as they already have a compost system running and very little goes out.

Line’s chickens were next and her set up had all sorts of rescued netting, iron and boards to keep them contained, and a large covered area to keep them dry, but her husband is going to keep working on it. Her daughters were there to help with translation though she seemed to understand everything. They were intrigued with the fridge bags and bokashi bin and keen to try.

Next call was Sophie who has a nice big section. We chose a corner and talked about fencing options. I have sent her the pics of what is available at Bunnings which will give her ten metres and stakes if she wants to go that way. Sophie mentioned that the house is built on what was a swamp, and after days of heavy rain a bit of a river runs through the back section as they laid concrete over the swamp and built on that, so there’s very little topsoil. We talked about avoiding the back corner as much as possible. Sophie is trying to start up a vege garden and has built raised beds wherever she can so I will try and remember to take her some seedlings when I drop her hens in.

I then went to meet Zane. Zana has only been in her home a week and the section is about a quarter acre, so huge. We spotted a moth plant and we advised her to get it removed before the seed pods burst if possible. We found a good spot and as hubby is a builder she didn’t think it would be hard, or take long to get set up, but I have sent her the Bunnings fence and post options pics also.

Awesome to have Jackie on board who has a great knowledge of the area and people and has a lovely way with everyone.

Talk soon.
